It Begins!! The New Way of doing things.

It Begins!
Well everyone, I have found the small amount of time to maybe start a new way of Updating you wonderful people with the Lives of the Nimmo Clan!
I think this may be a lot cooler than using the evil FACEBOOK. And maybe this way the kids can update stuff so their friends can read and see what goes on here in the Kootenies.
So? Where shall we begin? If you haven't kept up with our ADVENTURES then the archives are being separated. Older, beginning stuff is under Archives and 2010 stuff is being stored under it's own header.
If you want to see all the latest news then please, go here!

Well? Why did we do it?

The Nimmos @ Grady Lake
One of the most difficult things in life is to leave your comfort zone. It could be something so simple as not ordering your usual lunch at your favorite restaurant. Or it could be as horrifying as leaving your hometown and going somewhere where you have zero idea who people are and where you are going to move into. I hope you all know that I am NOT crazy (well actually I am but not where the well-being of my family is concerned) and I didn't take the decision lightly.
I still remember the day when I really thought that I would either 'Put up or Shut up'. My Dad and I were prawning. It was a great Island day and we were just sitting in the boat, waiting for the traps to 'soak'. I talked to my Dad, who has lived in Crofton for most of his life, about leaving the mill in Crofton and moving to maybe Ottawa or up Northern BC. I complained that the Mill Management's direction was faulted and I stressed about where the mill and I would be in 3 years. Like a great father, he listened and supported me in my thoughts.
We pulled up the prawn traps and headed home. At home Lelonie, my Dad and I dealt with our great ocean harvest and enjoyed the early Spring sun. I continued on with my moving idea and Lelonie said, "Eric, how about we wait until the Mill's door hits your butt on the way out? I really don't want to leave. Can you stick it out for a little while longer? I really don't want to leave."
My Dad added, "Yes, stick it out. I would hate to see you leave."
And I did stick it out. For about 16 months.
I have no idea if I made the right choice. I know that I was scared that my family would be miserable and would hate it here in the Kootenies. We made the decision tho and we have to stick with it. So far it is working out well. The area is awesome and the people rock.

Our House

The new Playroom with cork flooring
I like our house in Fruitvale. It's huge, has a lot of room to grow in, a great backyard, space to store our 'Toys' and is in a good part of town.
I am nervous about the Ice damming in the Winter tho. Sure we had the roof redone but I am still paranoid. Yesterday we had a huge downpour and we discovered water ontop of the wood stove. It didn't leak on the outside of the pipe tho. Did it come down the inside and pool on the edges of the inside cladding? Argh.
The small stairwells and hallways limit where you can put furniture. We need a loveseat or a couch but will it fit downstairs? A Futon would fit but do we really want a Futon?

Kootenay Wildlife

Bear across the creek
One nice thing about the Nimmo family is that there isn't the fear of wildlife. There is an abundance of wildlife in the Kootenies and I am amazed at the amount of Black Bears around. I think I have seen more bears in the past 2 weeks than I have seen in 5 Island hunting seasons!
Zander spotted this bear heading up the creek bank to the neighbour's compost pile. This was the day after I found a large pile of bear excrement in the yard. We have also seen a few skunks here too. No fear there but we do give them a wide berth! We were having a small fire in the backyard when we heard this commotion in the next door neighbour's yard. It's hard to see but just below the left blue/grey column is a skunk eating the cat food. It was dark and I only saw him due to the flash of the camera. The next shot I took..... he was gone! Campfire done and we went inside.
